👋 Welcome to Paul Hanson Agency — State Farm Insurance in Sauk Rapids, MN

Since 1984, our team has helped families and businesses across Sauk Rapids, Sartell, St. Cloud, Foley, and the surrounding Benton, Stearns, Morrison, and Sherburne County communities protect what matters most — auto, home, renters, life, and business coverage, plus an annual review we call The Simple Conversation. Guidance that's personal, practical, and straightforward.

🎒 School starts August 31 — the roads change before it does.

District open houses are August 26, buses are back on Osauka Road and Benton Drive, and St. Cloud State students are moving into first apartments across the river. Three things worth a few minutes this month:

  • A teen driver going on the policy for the first time

  • Renters coverage for a student's first apartment

  • A roof that hasn't been looked at since this summer's storms

If any of those sound like your house, a short conversation is the fastest way to sort it out. Call, text, or stop in — Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

About Paul

I'm Paul Hanson — a second-generation State Farm agent serving Sauk Rapids and Central Minnesota since 1984. My family has been helping people protect what matters most since 1969, and that same purpose drives everything we do today.

A little about me:

  • 👨‍👧‍👦 Proud dad of five and owner of four Labrador Retrievers

  • 🏈 Former youth sports coach in football, hockey, and baseball, now proudly cheering on my son's baseball team as one of its biggest fans

  • 🌿 Volunteer and former National Chairman of Pheasants Forever

  • 🏆 Sartell Citizen of the Year, 2014 — co-creator of Pinecone Park, a 12-field youth sports complex serving families across Central Minnesota

  • 🤝 St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce member since 2000

  • 🔨 Central Minnesota Builders Association member since 2000

Being part of this community is not something I take lightly. I look forward to helping you and your family navigate life's changes with the coverage and confidence you deserve.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to my car insurance when my teenager starts driving? When your teenager starts driving, it is a good time to review your auto coverage and discounts. Adding a teen driver can affect your rate, and programs such as Steer Clear may be available for qualifying drivers. We can walk through your options and help you understand what changes when your teen gets behind the wheel.

If I hit a deer in Minnesota, does my car insurance cover it? Deer collisions are a real concern around Sauk Rapids and throughout Central Minnesota, especially in the fall. Deer damage is generally handled under comprehensive coverage rather than collision coverage. If you drive rural roads or highways such as Highway 10, it is worth knowing what coverage and deductible you have before deer season.

Does my homeowners insurance cover hail damage to my roof? Hail damage may be covered by homeowners insurance, but the details depend on your policy, including your coverage, deductible, the age and condition of your roof and any applicable limitations. After a significant storm, it is worth having damage evaluated and reviewing your policy so you understand what protection you have.

What should I check on my home insurance before winter in Central Minnesota? Fall is a good time to review your home coverage before freezing temperatures arrive. Frozen pipes, ice dams, winter storms and other cold-weather problems can create expensive damage. It is also a good time to check your deductibles, coverage limits and any optional coverage you may have for water backup or sump pump problems.

Does homeowners insurance cover a flooded basement or a failed sump pump? Not automatically. Water backup and sump pump failure are generally different from flood coverage and may require an optional endorsement. A standard homeowners policy also does not normally provide flood coverage. We can review your policy and explain the difference in plain English so you know what you have before a problem happens.

Does renters insurance really make sense if I am renting in Sauk Rapids? Renters insurance can help protect your personal belongings and provide liability coverage, while your landlord's policy generally protects the building itself rather than your personal property. If you are renting a house or apartment in Sauk Rapids, St. Cloud or Sartell, we can walk through what renters coverage does and does not cover.

How often should I actually review my insurance? Once a year is a good time to review your coverage, and you should also check in whenever something important changes. A new driver, new vehicle, move, marriage, new baby, home project or new business can all change your insurance needs. We call our annual review The Simple Conversation because we walk through your coverage and questions without rushing you.

Is the life insurance I have through work enough for my family? Employer-provided life insurance can be a good starting point, but it may not be enough for your family's needs and it may change if your employment changes. The right amount depends on factors such as income replacement, debts, household needs, education goals and the people who depend on you. We can help you look at the whole picture in plain language.

How much life insurance do I need if I have kids and people depend on my income? There is no single amount that is right for every family. A good starting point is to look at how much income would need to be replaced, what financial obligations would need to be covered, and what goals you would want your family to be able to continue pursuing. We can help you work through those questions as part of The Simple Conversation.

What is the difference between comprehensive and collision coverage on my car? Collision coverage generally applies when your vehicle is damaged in a collision with another vehicle or object. Comprehensive coverage generally applies to physical damage from things other than a collision, such as hail, theft, fire and animal collisions. Your specific policy controls, so we are happy to walk through your coverage and deductible in plain English.
